Overview
The presenter will deliver her personal view of how to plan and conduct research covering:
- What is the aim of research / science?
- Identifying your research aims and objectives and what is the difference?
- Formulating hypotheses - “The formulation of the problem is often more essential than its solution" (Einstein)
- Reviewing and critically evaluating previous work – what are the gaps?
- Planning your research
- Designing research methods and techniques
- Communicating your results and drawing conclusions
- Thesis preparation
Who should participate
This course is for PhD researchers only and ideally attendance should be as early as possible during your registration. No minimum attendance requirement.

At the end of the course participants should be able to

- have a clearer picture of how to plan and organise your research programme
- be aware of time management challenges associated with research
