Workshop overview

Public speaking is one of the most universal fears, but the good news is that it can be overcome. This programme offers 4 workshops, each designed to practice a particular aspect of giving a presentation:

  1. Dealing with presentation nerves
  2. How to make a presentation engaging
  3. Designing effective PowerPoint slides
  4. Concluding a presentation and dealing with questions

The aim of these workshops is to provide participants the opportunity to practice giving presentations and as a result, increase their confidence to replicate this in future oral interactions. Each workshop is offered as an in-person workshop or as an online webinar. You do not need to attend both. Webinar joining instructions are normally sent with your booking confirmation, and also confirmed a day or so in advance.

Who should participate?

All students who want to improve their ability and confidence with oral presentations.

Intended learning outcomes (ILOs)

By the end of this session participants should be able to:

  • deliver an academic presentation with confidence
  • deal with any presentation nerves
  • know how to engage with the audience from the start
  • design effective PowerPoint slides
  • conclude presentations effectively
  • deal with any question professionally

Session format

Interactive workshop with PowerPoint presentation and group and individual exercises.
