Overview  

The success of your career depends upon your ability to drive your own development ! Taking early ownership of your own self-development is key to your success.  Successful candidates are those who can clearly demonstrate to potential employers that they are actively driving their own development.  This workshop will provide you with the insights and tools necessary to think about and plan for your professional, academic and personal development both during your studies and in your future career.

Who should participate  

This course is for PhD researchers only and should be attended as early as possible during your studies so that you can maximise your development opportunities.  We require minimum attendance of 10. 

Intended learning outcomes (ILOs)

At the end of the course you should be able to  

  • Recognise the importance of evaluating the skills and competencies you have achieved and are also developing
  • Understand how your skills, knowledge and competencies are transferable to other contexts, including professional and work settings
  • Review and monitor career and academic development more effectively
  • Be better prepared for the demands of continuing progression and career development in academic and professional career paths

 
Session format 

This session is an interactive lecture with exercises designed to explore Personal Development.
