Workshop overview
There are 8 sessions in this suite of Lunch+Learn(EnglishSupport) workshops each lasting 45 minutes. Each session will explore a topic related to academic writing that you will need to succeed:
- How to integrate citations in text
- How to successfully paraphrase, summarise and synthesise sources
- Critical thinking and reading
- Critical thinking and writing
- The 3 key tenses in academic writing
- Punctuation: 4 uses of the comma
- The 4 main sentence types in academic writing
- Tips for revising your draft assignment
Aim
The aim of these workshop-style sessions is to cover some of the most important aspects of academic writing in concise, bitesize and easy to comprehend sessions.
The sessions are designed to be standalone. They are scheduled to run during lunchtimes and have evening repeats for maximum accessibility. Each session is offered as an online webinar. Webinar joining instructions are normally attached to the booking confirmation but will also be sent out again on the day of the session.

All students who want to revise their knowledge and improve their academic writing ability.
Intended learning outcomes (ILOs)
By the end of these sessions, participants should be able to:
- paraphrase, summarise and synthesise sources successfully;
- cite and reference sources accurately according to the Cranfield referencing style;
- think, read and write critically;
- apply tenses effectively;
- perfect the usage of the comma;
- construct different sentences in your writing appropriately;
- and effectively revise your draft assignments.

Interactive workshop with PowerPoint presentation and group and individual exercises.
